Welcome to my world...
Music gives us life!
My Playlist, Myself
Music as a whole is a very powerful tool in my opinion.
As famous Irish musician Bono once said “Music can change the world, because it
can change people.” I agree 100% with this quote because music influences
people and their ideas and actions so often, we often do not even notice when
such influence is even occurring let along how often it has happened
previously. So when given this assignment I immediately thought of the songs
that tend to have a strong influence over myself and why that is. The five
songs I came up with were; “Ambitious Girl” and “Ambition” both by an artist
named Wale also a song called “Blow up” by J.Cole, “Grinding” by Lil Wayne, and
“About the Money” by one of my favorite artists T.I. These songs are most important to me for their own individual reasons. For instance the two songs “Ambition” and “Ambitious Girl” are songs that I feel represent myself and also my character, but I would say it is most important because when I hear these songs it is as if I am being reminded of the journey to get where I want to be in life. In the song “Ambitious Girl” wale says, “Ambitious girl, you just want to win. You rather chase your dreams than to chase these men” those lyrics themselves I feel reflect my mindset to a T as far as staying focused. The songs “About the Money”, “Blow Up”, and “Grinding” are important to me because they motivate me, they keep my head in the game, and the lyrics also just give me that push I need sometimes when things are not going as planned or could just be better in general. My first encounter with the songs “Ambition” and “Ambitious Girl” were nothing spectacular, I had just downloaded the Wale C.D and those two songs just struck me when I heard them and instantly became my favorite on the album. The song “Blow Up” I actually had never heard until I was at a J.Cole concert at The Rave in Milwaukee, and J.Cole was performing this song with so much passion just describing how through all the obstacles he had faced he was ready to blow up and take control of his success. “About the Money” was actually brought to me by two of my sorority sisters, they came up to me and said this songs reminds me of you and asked me to listen to it and I did and I too felt it reminded me of myself because I have that attitude that if something is not of benefit or something positive in general I do not even want to associate myself with it. Lastly the song “Grinding” by Lil Wayne, I had just heard on the radio once while I was in Washington, DC and I really liked it because it represented that struggle, that grind to make it to the top, which is something I am enduring right now so it was very much relatable. My playlist says many things about me like; I am determined, strong willed, focused, and I have “tunnel vision” for lack of better words as far as becoming successful. My choices reflect my sense of self very much. My decisions and choices are almost always made based off my opinions, values, and or feelings associated with the subject. Also, if that decision will put me in a better position to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming successful is always a factor too. People would learn that I have a strong will to get what I want out of life and also that I am focused and prepared for any and whatever obstacles that may present themselves from listening to my playlist. What people would not be able to learn from listening to my playlist would be exactly what type of music I like, because these songs are all hip-hop songs but that is not the only genre of music I enjoy. Assumptions people might make based off my playlist as I mentioned previously would be that based off my playlist I only like hip-hop songs. My playlist indicate that my choice of music connects to something larger in perspective, and that something larger is my yearning for success. That my focus is strictly my top priority at the moment and that all of these songs keep me motivated or just keep me reminded to keep my concentration on my main goal first and foremost and to not get distracted by all means necessary. |
